Your diamond jewelry is a precious investment. However, over time, diamond jewelry can become dull and lose its luster. You may be wondering how to clean a diamond ring, or how to clean diamond jewelry.
Here are the best ways to keep your diamonds sparkling as beautiful as the day you took them home from the jeweler.
<>Detergent Bath
Fill a bowl with warm water and add a mild detergent (your favorite liquid dish soap will do). Take a toothbrush or eyebrow brush and gently brush your diamond with the sudsy water. This will loosen up any dirt and oil build up that may be clinging to your diamond. Place the diamond in a strainer (be sure to chose a strainer with small holes so the diamond doesn't fall through), run it under warm water to remove all of the soap. NEVER use chlorine bleach to clean a diamond because it's too harsh.
<>Quick Dip
Select a diamond cleaner solution and follow the instructions carefully. They will instruct you how to dip your diamond into the cleaning solution and what to do afterwards. Make sure you don't touch your diamond while cleaning because the oils from your fingers will be transferred to your diamond. Let the diamond dry completely before wearing it or storing it away.
<>Cold Water Soak
Fill a bowl with a solution of half cold water and half household ammonia (be careful when handling ammonia!). Place the diamond into the solution and allow it to soak for 30 minutes. Take it out, tap the diamond around the mounting brackets, then swish it around again in the cold water solution to rinse. Dry your diamond on a piece of tissue paper.
<>Ultrasonic Cleansing
There are many ultrasonic jewelry cleaners out on the market. The ultrasonic machines have a little cup that you fill with water and a cleanser. You then place your jewelry into the cup and turn on the machine. The high speed motion of the machine cleans dirt and oils off of your jewelry.
<>Professional Cleaning
If you don't feel comfortable cleaning your diamond jewelry yourself, you can always take it back to your jeweler and request they clean it for you. Check your jewelry's warranty agreement to see if cleaning is included.
